Join our guides as we paddle back in time to uncover the history and heritage of the Ramsar Listed Hunter Estuary on this guided canoe tour for World Wetlands Day.

Over thousands of years, the Hunter Estuary has undertaken profound transformation - from ancient submerged landscapes to the fertile hunting and fishing grounds of indigenous people, through our colonial and industrial past to the rehabilitated landscape you see today. On this immersive tour, you'll hear engaging stories of the Hunter's wetlands, its inhabitants, how the area continues to change and what’s being done to protect these important waterways for the future.

More than just a history lesson, this is a chance to connect with nature as you paddle under the shady mangroves and through the gentle waters of the Ironbark Catchment.

This guided canoe tour is a great way for families and curious explorers of all ages to discover the stories, history and natural beauty of this unique wetland environment — no previous paddling experience needed.

Important Info

Cost: $10pp. NOTE: If you are in a family or group EACH individual must have a ticket.

Cost Includes: Includes: Lifejackets and equipment plus all day entry to the Hunter Wetlands Centre

Tour Duration: Approx 1.5hrs on the water.

Age: Suitable for ages 4years+. Children 4-12 must be in a canoe with an adult.

What to Wear/Bring: We ask that you wear enclosed shoes, sunscreen, hat, long sleeve shirt/pants and bring a bottle of water.
