Kids! Looking for some nature-based fun during school holidays? The Hunter Wetlands Centre has loads of outdoor activities to keep little explorers busy.

All About Lizards! 

Feel, see, sniff and listen (sorry, no tasting) as you follow the Sensory Trail in search of Lizards and visit our special School Holiday Lizard Lounge! Learn all about these important reptiles and help them build habitat they can call home. Don't forget to complete the Lizard Quiz and go in to the draw for a chance to WIN a PRIZE! Pick up your Activity Sheet at our Reception. ‍

Reptile Encounters! 

Get 'hands on' with nature at our popular Reptile Encounter show where our Animal Carers bring out our slithery and scaley residents to meet our visitors! You'll learn all about Australia's fascinating reptiles and even get a chance to pat them - if you dare.  ‍

Wednesdays & Weekends at 11am | $5pp Tickets at Reception!

Critters & Craft

‍In our fun guide-led drop-in sessions you'll get to use magnifying glasses and microscopes to find out more about all the fascinating insects, larvae and other critters that live in and around the ponds! There will also be fun lizard craft sessions so you can busy painting, cutting and printing with nature!

Wetlands After Dark

When the sun goes down, many Aussie animals wake up and the trees, creeks and ponds come to life.  Our guide, John, will be leading us through the wetlands woodlands and reeds in search of our nocturnal residents. On the way, he will share fascinating facts and insights about their behaviour and answer your questions. 

This is a rare opportunity to visit the wetlands after dark and encounter animals not visible during the day.

Suitable for kids 5years + accompanied by an adult

Campfire Yarns with Aunty Theresa

Join Worimi lore woman, Aunty Theresa for an evening of aboriginal storytelling around the campfire. In the warmth of the fire and the soft scent of eucalypts, sit together and engage in cultural storytelling grounded in connection and care for Country and engage with Aboriginal culture
