Art Exhibition: Alison Ellis & Ciara Symons

Visitor Centre Hunter Wetlands Centre

'Under the Same Sky' is a joint exhibition featuring works by artists Alison Ellis and Ciara Symons.

Alison, a Sydney-based Natural History Illustrator with a passion for the migratory shorebirds of the Hunter Estuary is sharing the exhibition with a young, emerging watercolour artist, Ciara Symons in her first exhibition. Ciara and Alison have united through their passion for representing birds of the Hunter region.

In this exhibition, Ciara focuses her painting on many of the lesser known birds found around the estuary bringing attention to birds that are often overlooked.

Alison's work explores the importance of community and connection through birds and the impact they have on humans. From the colourful, exuberant rainforest birds and their bursts of colour that bring joy to those who encounter them, to the Latham's Snipe whose annual 8,500km journey from Japan connects the communities of Newcastle and Kushiro in a wetlands sister city arrangement, the exhibition reflects on local and global connections forged by our feathered friends.

The Exhibition runs from 27 March until 23 April.
