These school holidays we're putting the "wet" into wetlands as we get all geeky about WATER!
• Kick of your school holidays with our annual SPRING FESTIVAL on Sunday 28 September. With magnificent markets, yummy food, live music and loads of fun stuff for kids including facepainting, jumping castle, sandpit, roaming reptiles, talks, tours and more it's one of the best ways to spend a Sunday outdoors! • Look in, on and around our ponds as you complete our Ponds Scavenger Hunt. Don't forget to drop your completed sheet it the bucket on the way out and you could be a winner of a Hunter Wetlands Centre Gift Shop voucher! Pick up your copy at Reception. $FREE with Entry.
• After Dark is back again these school holidays! As the sun goes down many nocturnal critters come out. Our expert guide, John will take us on a torchlight tour of our grounds and answer all your questions about our night time residents. Tues 30 Sept & Thurs 2 Oct at 6pm. $7.50 Kids $15 Adults. Buy your tickets online. Be quick - spots fill up fast! GET TICKETS
• Get 'hands on' with nature at our popular Reptile Encounter where our Animal Carers bring out our slithery and scaley residents to meet visitors! You'll learn all about Australia's fascinating reptiles and even get a chance to pat them - if you dare. Sat, Sun and Wednesdays (during school holidays) at 11am. $5pp Tickets at Reception!
• Our Wetlands Wednesdays are for Water Science as we explore how wetlands work and the cool ways water behaves. Experiment with water surface tension and water filtration, learn about salinity and how it determines what wildlife lives where, see what lives in our ponds when you go dipnetting with our guide Catherine and find out where the water at home goes after we flush! $Free with Entry
• The sunny spring weather means its time for canoes! Our big red canoes and slow flowing creeks are perfect for families to get out and see the wetlands from the water! Canoe hire is just $30 for 2 hrs lifejackets included. Enquire at Reception. (Kids 5yo+ please!)
Don't forget we have Magpie Geese feeding every day at 10.30am and free guided walks on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10.00am
