WATERBIRDS AND WETLANDS PHOTO EXHIBITION LAUNCHED ON
WORLD WETLANDS DAY, TUESDAY 2 FEBRUARY 2016
Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia (HWCA) launched two exhibitions of photographs of waterbirds and wetlands to celebrate World Wetlands Day on Tuesday 2 February 2016.
The launch was co-hosted with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, WetlandCare Australia and Conservation Volunteers.
HWCA is pleased to partner with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage to provide a long-term home for a collection of 20 images showcasing the wonder and beauty of the Gwydir Wetlands, west of Moree in Northern NSW, following extensive flooding and environmental watering through the summer of 2011/12.
The exhibition titled ‘Waterbirds Return as the Gwydir Floods’ features the work of four photographers – private photographers Joshua Smith from Narrabri and Paul Bayne of Armidale along with Daryl Albertson and Jennifer Spencer from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage
The collection has toured regional centres since its launch in Moree on World Wetlands Day 2014.
We are also very fortunate to host an exhibition of 24 amazing photos of wetland waterbirds by internationally renowned, Newcastle-based bird photographer Rod Warnock.
His images of waterbirds and shorebirds from the Lower Hunter showcase the diversity and beauty of our wetland wildlife, and we hope will raise awareness of the many values of wetlands.
Images and information regarding the waterbirds of the Gwydir Wetlands may be viewed at
HWCA will use the new gallery space to host permanent and temporary exhibits of photographs and art to raise awareness of the value of conserving and using wetlands wisely.
